Umbrella Policy News October 2024

Rate increase: Blue Cross Blue Shield clients who have a deductible will notice an increase in their cost per session from $129 to $137. The cap of your deductible will remain the same but you will reach it a little faster. The reason for this is due to a reimbursement increase from BCBS.

Private Pay clients will receive a rate increase of 5% starting mid October. These increases will be used to cover the cost of rising office rent as well as Stripe fees for credit card charges.

Insurance: Please let me know if you experience any changes in your health insurance. I accept all Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. The reason that I have stopped taking other health insurance plans is due to paperwork errors which result in non-payment, and due to insurance clawbacks (a practice in which an insurance company asks for repayment by a therapist after the service has been rendered). Here is an article for you if you are curious: https://commonwealthbeacon.org/health-care/clawbacks-threaten-mental-health-services/

Sliding scale: I am occasionally able to offer sessions at a reduced rate but I am not able to offer a reduced rate to all of my clients. I reserve this for those who really need it. Sliding scale rates are subject to changes on a case-by-case basis.

Cancellation Policy: If you can’t make your session please cancel with as close to 24 hours notice as you can. If you forget to come or cancel with little notice, you will be charged a cancellation fee that is commensurate with your session fee. The reason for this charge is due to an inability to recover the cost and time of the hour that has been reserved for you. Extenuating circumstances such as illness will be considered on a case by case basis.

Finally, the Parent Supportive Study Group will be conducted as a free, home-based study course this fall rather than an in-person group. I will offer the materials to my parent community by sending them home after sessions. I will then welcome your feedback and do a blog post on the results. This way, we can support each other without having to get out of our cozy clothes.
